Math
By Martina, Griffin and Zoe
In 4K Math we have been learning how to multiply two by one- digit numbers, two by two -digit numbers, and multiply two by three- digit numbers. Some of the multiplication strategies we use are area models, arrays, pictures and standard algorithm.
We also just finished doing our fractions unit, in that unit we did comparing fractions and we also identified fractions. In math for a warmup we usually go onto IXL, then Miss. Kennedy gives us a mini lesson on what we’re going to be learning. After that, we apply ourselves in our workbooks or games. There are 8 units in our whole book. Right now we are finishing our multiplication and division unit. There are story problems and equations and so much more. We also just learned a new game called Factor Captor. In Factor Captor, we have a sheet of paper and our partner puts a block on a number a the other person finds all of the factors for it, after they do that the first person who put the block down looks to see if the second person missed any factors. Clearly we are very busy in 4K math and it is very fun at the same time.
Reading

Thank you for using your time to support us for our Wax Museum.
In our biography projects we are reading biographies about famous people and events. Then, we will complete our very own Who Was report! In Reading, we have been reading books like Riding Freedom, which is about a man, (secretly a women!) who talently drives stagecoaches for a living. The story we are currently reading is The Right Dog for the Job by Dorothy Hinshaw Patent. The story is about a Service Dog named Ira who trains to be a Guide Dog. This story is important because it teaches us how dogs benefit humans and how humans benefit dogs. It is fascinating.
Social Studies
By Kenny, Rose and Olivia
In 4K Social Studies, we've finished learning about the Midwest and it’s extreme temperatures, daily life, and harvesting. We finished a research book all about Illinois, which included things like attractions, state symbols and important people.. We also started researching a significant person or event to Illinois, such as Frank Lloyd Wright or the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Recently we finished our tech-based projects that included facts from our research.
To gather information for our Illinois project we used a reading app called Epic! and found books that we could use to find information, websites Miss Kennedy recommended for us, our textbooks, and a bin of books about Illinois.
We also started our unit about the West region. We read with a partner about the west in our textbooks and copied down the lesson summary and why it matters into our notebooks. We labeled and colored a map of states and state capitals of the west. While we were coloring it, we watched a movie about the west.
We have learned a lot in this whole unit. We have been learning lots of stimulating things in social studies lately!
Science
By Grant, Jack and Isabella V.
In Science we just finished our Land and Water test! Now we are starting our STEM Collisions Unit. We are building vehicles out of vex robotics then testing them. Right now we are using ramps to test how far our vehicles will travel when it is released at different heights.
We also read a passage about seatbelts and we are learning about potential and kinetic energy. Some days we answer questions about those two types of energy. The questions also include questions about safety in vehicles and how they work.
Science is always fun to learn and test!
Writing Workshop
By Hailey & Alex
We just finished our Literary Essays. Literary Essays are about a book that we read but we rewrote the book in an Essay form about one character in the book. We described them and gave reasons and evidence. We shared them the other fourth grade classes. For our Literary Essay, we read a book then each one of us choose a book to write about.
We have since started an informational essay on our significant person/event. We are going to make a small informational book about our significant person or event. We are making three sections of our informational book. For each section we have to write a question and answer the question for our significant person/event. So far most of us are in the drafting part. We are so excited to make a book because we put so much effort in the project. We used slides in Google Classroom to guide us through the lesson. We also used examples to form our stories. We used Naomi’s example for our significant person/event. Naomi’s example was about the American Revolution War.
Overall, workshop is very fun. We do a lot of writing and it turns into a masterpiece. We put so much effort in it. We are very proud of our work.
Fun Stuff

In fourth grade there is a lot of fun things going on. Last Friday Mr. Gartski, our middle school principal, came to talk to us about Roosevelt. In PE, we finished our fitness testing a few weeks ago also. We finished regular testing too. In tech time, we have been learning digital citizenship with Mrs.Crannell. She showed us a game called interland. In Interland, they show us islands that teach us how to be good citizens online. These islands are, kind kingdom, Realty River, Mindful Mountain, and last but not least Tower of Treasure. In Art we brought home are portfolios, to show to our parents. In fourth grade we are looking forward to our scavenger hunt, Field day, our fourth grade breakfast, and the last day of school! We are so sad to leave, Willard, but we are also excited to explore Roosevelt. Our futures are bright!
